Social work can be traced in the attempts of the community at large in dealing with the challenge of inequality and poverty. It is clear that social work is intricately associated with the perspective of volunteer work but it must be understood in wider terms. Notably, charity concept was used in the ancient times and the practice of offering for the poor can be traced in all the major world denominations.
