Economic development has negatively impacted Indigenous health in the Amazon by facilitating the rapid spread of communicable diseases, as well as malnutrition due to the displacement among Indigenous Indians. Indigenous Indians from different tribes have long lived in various parts of the Amazonian jungle (PAHO TV). Moreover, the challenges that they face in the 21st century are some of the most severe that the tribes have ever had to contend with. This is because increasing encroachment on their land has forced them to abandon their farm lands, as well as areas in which they are accustomed to hunting (Roane, 2016). In addition, the fact that Indigenous tribes are now being forced to come into contact with other people from South America is something that leaves them vulnerable to communicable diseases which could wipe them out because they have not developed immunity to these diseases.
