Despite the fact that the doctor’s house is located in a nice neighborhood, it remains filthy most of the time. The doctor’s children have been experiencing different challenges due to substance abuse. In most cases, the children appear to be exchanging bitter words with one another and they are rude to their parents. Nevertheless, after a few years, Augusten develops a feeling that he is trapped and alone in his life. He comes to the conclusion that the lack of rules also results in a lack of direction. Therefore, he desires to meet someone who will advise him on the best way to act and end this predicament. Furthermore, Augusten becomes close friends with Natalie who is one of the doctor’s family members. Natalie encourages Augusten to consider applying for a part job, despite that Natalie gains employment.
