French baroque art expressed religious intensity and absolutism in the manner in which rulers like Louis IV used it to control art and artistic freedoms of his subjects. Art and any other form of expression was manipulated in a way that it served as propaganda for absolutist policies, (Fiero, 2016). Interestingly, this period coincided with the time when art was quite popular, and it was the most preferred method of expression for the people. This made it easy for rulers like Louis XIV to use it to convey to the subjects how majestic and strong their monarchies were (Fiero, 2016). The textbook gives the example of a popular piece of art called the Le Brun’s Expression. Apparently, the piece of art was intended to establish art narratives in paintings that could be easily read by viewers. The end result was not as intended; the King would not allow it because the people could easily take advantage of the new narrative and write things that criticized his leadership. It is one example of how the monarchies used art style called baroque to establish their rising absolutism.
