| There are a number of similarities as well as differences between universities in the UK and universities in the Netherlands. In both the UK and the Netherlands, university education is not free. University tuition in the Netherlands is far cheaper than in the UK. In the UK, university tuition fees amount to approximately £9,000 to £15,000 per year, while in the Netherlands, university tuition amounts to approximately £1,500 per academic year. University students in both nations can access maintenance and student loans, though. In the UK, it is mainly students from low income backgrounds who tend to be approved for such loans, while in the Netherlands, university students from different economic backgrounds can apply for and receive financial assistance. It is this fact that makes universities in the Netherlands so popular with both local and international students. |
