Case: John Davis

Answer Preview

As an 11-year-old Caucasian male, John Davis is on the threshold of adolescence. He has to contend with more challenges, though, than many other boys of his age have to because of his circumstances. John Davis’ parents stated that he has gotten into schoolyard fights throughout his time at school. This means that John had behavioral problems from the time when he was first enrolled in school. The fact that his parents did not address the causes of his aggression then means that John was left alone to contend with his negative feelings from a young age. His only outlet was in fighting with fellow students at school. In essence, John has learned to cope with negative feelings by being aggressive and belligerent. From speaking with John, I also sensed that he resents his parents for refusing to help him deal with negative feelings.
