One of the ways through which businesses can obtain a competitive advantage using information systems, especially in the case of new entrants is by eliminating some of the barriers in the markets. This is possible by ensuring that the new entrant adopts advanced digital technology, which helps it penetrate the new market efficiently at low costs. (Hirt and Willmott 2014).  This is because such a company would manage to compete with already established companies by promoting its products and services aggressively online. The fact that digital platforms, which are part of the information systems do not restrict the geographical reach of the business makes it possible for new corporates to compete with those that have been in the market for a long time (McAfee and Brynjolfsson 2008).
