With the Internet, the world has been termed as a global village, as now people are connected to each other in far much greater ways; doing business, learning, and simple actions as communicating with each other have been reduced to the proximity of one’s environment. A software-defined network (SDN) is a new network architecture that can be programmed as opposed to the previous traditional method of network forwarding. In an SDN, there is a goal that is oriented towards decoupling the data planes and control planes to the use of a control plane that is programmable. In such a case, the network is based on a network controller, which makes the process of networking cheaper and much simpler. With the implementation of an SDN, there is better control of the network, improved performance, enhancement of configuration, and an improvement in innovation. Cross-Layer designs have been used in various networks, and have contributed to remarkable improvement in performance. With cross later designs, there is enhanced sharing of information within a system and among other systems.
