Internal communication is usually governed by the design and culture within the organization as it flows within an organization following a specific direction. In most organizations, communications can happen downwards, which is from management to employees. This is evidence that the design structure of an organization will determine the kind of communication that will take place. For effectiveness, organizations need to find a directional balance, because too much downward communication can cause employees to tune out messages. When it comes to external communication, there is a huge relation between this and organizational design. If, for example, receptionist is not empowered to make certain immediate decisions to resolve customer complaints, it can lead to negative public perception (Papa, Daniels & Spiker, 11).
