The exiled believed that God was justified for what he did. This is best captured in Daniels prayer after the sworn years of captivity were over. Daniels said “All Israel has transgressed your law and turned aside, refusing to obey your voice. So the curse and the oath written in the law of Moses, the servant of God, have been poured out upon us because we have sinned against you[1]” All through, the Deuteronomist acknowledge that God is holy and righteous.  He had kept his promise but they failed him. He had equally warned them that disobeying him would lead to a curse. God was being just and true to his word.  To prove that God was justified, there are several talks about how he had been faithful to them. For example, Deuteronomy 8, accounts God’s warning that they should not forget what God had done for them and saved them from Egyptians. They equally had the laws of Moses. In Joshua 1, they are asked to obey God so that they would prosper. This demonstrates that God was doing his part of being good and they deserved the punishment for their disobedience.
