The head is split in half, with one side depicting colorful, blonde hair. Perhaps it is this detail that leads to the relevance of the name of the artwork, The Dream. It seems as if the woman is in some sort of a dream. Her beauty and charm are evident, augmented by the beautiful face and the necklace (The Art Wolf, n.d.). The painting also features clear outlines and seems to be realer than most of the artist’s works. It has been severally noted that the painting was completed in one afternoon. The portrait has however become one of the most highly valued pieces of artwork of all time.

Despite its seeming simplicity, the art researchers and analysts have critiqued and analyzed it. The 130 x 97 centimeter painting is classified among the representatives of Picasso’s distorted depictions period (Pablopicasso.org, n.d.). During the period, Picasso created paintings showing the face with different perspectives, including using contrasted colors, backgrounds and visual effects to represent distorted perceptions of the face (Anushiravani and Foroozani, 2015; Kapur and Rubin, 1983). The Dream shows the lady’s face split in the middle, with different colorations of either side as if to depict some form of difference. It is as if it communicates the woman’s split between consciousness and sleep or dream.
