Breaking Negative Stereotypes about Muslim Women
Undoubtedly, as women across the globe continue to be celebrated as secrets for economic success, Muslim women continue to remain invisible in their contributions, mainly due to specific stereotypes (Utas, 2016). In that regard, they are only considered the custodians of Islam doctrines; hence, their input in national matters is overlooked. Most importantly, most Islam dominated countries like Afghanistan, Iran and Indonesia lean towards ineluctable patriarchy whereby males are considered superior to women. For instance, in Afghanistan, young girls are encouraged to get married to large families whereby they gain respect and dignity by bearing sons (Brill Report, 2019). Later in life, they can be granted power by becoming mothers’ in law. However, other women across the globe, especially from the western world, have the birthright to be respected whether they give birth to sons or daughters. To that end, westerners would be crucial in saving these Muslim women from such demeaning treatment since they (westerners) understand more about freedom and equality.
