A study by Harris et al. (2015) investigated the quality and frequency of mental health service provision for persons suffering from anxiety and affective disorders. The researchers used a quantitative research approach, basing their analysis on data from a sample of 8831 participants aged between 15 and 85 years. The findings indicated that majority of the respondents (39%) received mental health service from professional mental health practitioners, 26% benefitted from evince-based medical attention, while 16% accessed minimally-adequate intervention (Harris et al., 2015). The study findings demonstrated that mentally-ill patients who consulted a general practitioner had significantly lower chances of receiving minimally-adequate or evince-based mental health services than those engaged mental health practitioners. These findings informed the conclusion that in order to increase the quality of mental healthcare, strategies should be designed and implemented that promote the use of evidence-based mental health interventions delivered in sufficient levels.
