Answer preview

The focal aim of news media organizations is to gather information that it then presents to the public, ensuring that the people are reliably informed of the various issues that affect them.  The audience relies on the information that the news media deliver to them; this means that in the case where the media is unethical or unprofessional, it can abuse this power to influence and give false and misleading information in the interest of certain parties such as business entities, governments, and politicians (López Hidalgo and Fernández Barrero, 2012). Unethical practices such as bribery, illegal information gathering methods, broadcasting fake news while fashioning it as the real news to achieve certain vested interests, among other unprofessional practices undermine the credibility of the news media outlets.
