Answer preview

The health status of the Australian indigenous population has been dissimilar to the mainstream population. Improving the health position of the Aboriginal people and Torres Strait Islanders is an enduring task for the Australian people, government and non-governmental organisations. Although significant progress has been in increasing life expectancy, the progress has been sluggish and unpredictable. The difference between number of living Aboriginal people and Torres Strait Islanders and the number of the people supposed to be living is one measure of health equality (Donato & Segal, 2013). The health equality gap remains extensive and adapted countermeasures have not been worthwhile. With Aboriginal people and Torres Strait Islanders composed of large proportion of young population, there is an interminable challenge of formulating health policies and services that would meet the impending demand of the increasing population.
