Firstly, Sexton’s decision-making seems to be driven by the need to continue practicing his duty and obligation as both legal and ethical requirements in helping transform New York University. Many of the members of the public and some iconic figures such as the former secretary of state, Hillary Clinton, have been honoring Sexton for a job well done in transforming the institution (Kaminer, 2013). Kaminer states, “Embarking on an ambitious expansion at home, constructing a network of new campuses around the globe, wooing intellectual superstars and raising vast amounts of money, John Sexton of New York University is the very model of a modern university president — the leader of a large corporation, pushing for growth on every front (p. 3). The trustees have been highly commendable to Sexton’s assuring success in transforming the institution to reach and maintain global standards. Fundamentally, it is evident that the greater good of the institution has been achievable through Sexton’s tough calls in his decision making, which is a clear implication that even if he proceeds with the plans to expand locally and internally with the support of fewer members of the faculty, he is in the right side for the greater good of many.
