As may be evident from the foregoing review of literature, there is a good number of studies exploring the issues of B2B e-commerce as it applies to big companies in China and other parts of the world, as well as adoption of e-commerce by small firms in the US and the UK. Similarly, there is no serious shortage of research and commentaries on the growing popularity of e-commerce on the manner in which B2B e-commerce was growing in popularity across the world. However, existing literature is scanty as far as the challenges which small Chinese firm’s face in their efforts to adopt B2B commerce are concerned. More generally, there is a dearth of existing literature on the progress and challenges of small firms which have realized the opportunities offered by the e-commerce and are trying to integrate it into their supply chain systems. Fittingly, the proposed research will focus on gathering data and analyzing them in order to contribute to the existing literature, and attempt to fill the existing literature gap. B2B commerce is increasingly becoming popular, and where it has been employed, such as the example of Wal-Mart, it as been proven to be an effective strategy (AT Kearney, 2014; Blanchard, 2010). It is therefore essential to undertake the proposed study, in order to develop evidence based understanding of the challenges, and the viable solutions which the small Chinese firms may adopt in order to streamline their efforts tp adopt B2B e-commerce.
