Colonization generally meant acquisition of new territory by a more powerful group through forceful means (Post, 2). Colonization created opportunities for powerful nations to acquire more wealth through their conquests and new territories. This acquisitions served to enhance the power and prestige of the colonizers. Many a times, the inhabitants of the colonized nation were converted into slaves and servants to provide the much needed labor for wealth production. Many colonialists had a quest to amass as much wealth as they could from their colonies but they had no intention of putting in the works themselves (Post, 25). The British colonization of Virginia, Georgia and Maryland, in the 1600s faced the dilemma of the much needed cheap labor.
