All states in U.S.A now recognize marital laws and the judicial systems categorize rape within a marriage as a crime and that receives the same charges as rape between strangers. Proving marital rape can be challenging because it is difficult to prove that the wife did not give her consent in the sexual context (Steiner, 2019). Marital rape law relates to Islamic ‘Sharia’ law in that there are segments in the Islamic law that restricts husbands from having forceful sex with their wives and gives the wives the right to report such cases (al-Awwa, 2019).
