Despite being the biggest retailer in the UK, M&S is largely struggling to sustain its declining apparel business segment in the market. The Internet revolution is considered the greatest reason for M&S’s apparel business to have entered the current declining state. Internet-based technological innovations have enabled the development of prominent competition largely by the emerging, high creative fashion businesses. Using a long-term reputation to engage in traditional, seasonal fashion designing is no longer benefiting M&S, as the company’s last prominence in revenue generation occurred in 2008 when it used £31m on advertising (Espiner & Atkinson, 2016). Although M&S has recently begun engaging in online marketing strategies, the company still relies on traditional mainstream media and strategic business procedures.
