Australia’s media has developed a lot since the introduction of regular radio broadcasts in 1923. Its change of name from 2BC to 2BL was due to the emergence of another radio station two weeks later called 2FC, which changed later to Radio National. The two stations merged to form the Australian Broadcast Commission (ABC) on 1 July 1932. The radio stations during that time were mostly music-based, sometimes they would feature sports programs and live-to-air drama, and later they started featuring school broadcasts. The television was later introduced around 1956 in Victoria and New South Wales provinces and other provinces tagged along up to 1971. By the end of 2005, approximately 25% of all homes were using pay television with Foxtel offering cables and satellite TV to nearly all Australian channels.
