The minstrel show was a popular form of entertainment performance which was racially charged during the early 19th century. Many of the show performance consisted of dancing, music, skits and other forms of performances which had an African American theme (Bauch, 5).  The performances in these shows mainly portrayed the black people has dim-witted, lazy, and superstitious and many other negative traits. The traits of the black people portrayed in these movies are not what can be observed in the society today and hence the shows contained a lot of stereotyping. Many of the shows were performed by Caucasian individuals whose faces would be painted black.
