In the course of my practice as a nurse, I have come across several cases which proved to me what real primary care ought to be. Nursing practitioners are required to provide health care based on practical scientifically sound methods. This is why nursing is a profession that can only be acquired after a specific type of training. Nursing is a science, even though care is something that comes from within a human being. It is possible to be taken through the rigorous training course, but things like care, compassion, cooperation, respect and values cannot be taught within the confines of a classroom. Nursing practitioners ought to be at their best personalities because they act as the very first point of interaction between the individual, family and community with the national health system. As a nurse, I am required to develop both an understanding of the nursing philosophies and commitment to the nursing goals and values.
