Taking the Indian out of the Indian: U.S Policies of Ethnocide through Education by Donald A. Grinde Jr. is an article that provides an insight into the manner in which the United States government forced the Native American population to abandon their culture in order to learn about American policies.  The measures that the United States took were to ensure that Native Americans had an education and the civilizing policy was based on three cornerstones, which include education, Christianization, and the instilling of private property.  The rationale for bringing such change to Native Americans was due to an assumption that Indians did not have any educational structures, a mediocre brand of spirituality, and no sense of property.
