Topic

RFID in Agriculture

Instructions

This assignment is a 4-page research on RFID standards in the Agricultural industry (Farmers).

Answer preview

The current development in modern agriculture outlines a system for tracking using Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) grain chip technology. This paper covers on the current application, new possibilities, and explain limitations and challenges of this technology. In agriculture RFID has been used in animal identification and tracking thus becoming a common practice in may farms. In addition RFID has been use in food chain for traceability control. The application of sensor tags makes it possible to monitor cold chain of perishable food products and advancement of applications in irrigation, environmental monitoring, farm machinery and specialty crop. On the other hand are limitations and challenges such as operating in harsh environments, in dirt or extreme temperatures; large volumes of data that becomes challenging to manage; need for longer reading ranges caused by poor signal strength due to propagation in crop canopy; uncharacteristic frequencies in understanding the correct one for each application; diversity standards and level of granularity.
