A sample is a subset of the population. It can be representative or non-representative. To select a sample, probabilistic or non-probabilistic methods can be used. Examples of the former include random, systematic, stratified, cluster, and multistage sampling. On the other hand, examples the latter include convenience, volunteers, quota, snowball, and acquaintance sampling.
