Answer preview
The traditional media channels such as the radio, newspapers, television sets and posters and news boards, while applicable, are significantly limited, especially when it comes to disseminating critical information to a vast majority of the citizens, with the shortest time possible. The aim of this research was to examine the impacts of the new media on the Chinese’s government’s public crisis management. Research data was collected from case study analyses, as well as expert participant interviews. Two case studies, namely the use of new media in managing and handling the 2011 earthquake in Japan, and the devastating 2011 famine in Somalia were reviewed. 5 participants were interviewed. The findings show that that the new media will have a positive impact on the Chinese government’s public crisis communication and management.
