During the early 1800s to late 1900, African continent experienced invasions by European nations. Some used military superiority and power to coerce and subject Africans to their rule while others tricked traditional African leaders through the signing of fake treaties. This eventually resulted in the colonization of most African countries apart from Liberia and Ethiopia. Ethiopia had a well-organized army which was able to overcome the Italian army. The huge desire of European nations to come to Africa was triggered mainly by Nation prestige, the rise of an industrial revolution in Europe; pursue a market for their produced goods, settlement of excess population and the end of slave trade in Europe (Ashcroft, pg. 60).
