Ideology is a term that does not really have a single definition. It is a term that is commonly used to define a broad set of political beliefs or political ideas. A Marxist definition of ideology states that it is a set of dominant ideas and beliefs in a particular society that are commonly used to justify why the ruling class are more powerful. A mainstream definition of sociology is actually a very neutral view of the world where one believes that something is good or bad, depending on their individual perspectives. Ideology has been commonly used as a tool to obscure the truth; politics has taken advantage of ideologies to justify issues like inequalities because ideology gives the people a false picture of how the world works so that they can easily be manipulated (Dijk, 1998).
