The Dispute Concerning Performance Related Pay for Teachers
Instructions
Critically examine the Role of the State or Government as an Actor in Employment Relations
Answer preview
Undisputedly, the government always tries to look for proper ways to improve the productivity of its civil servants. One of the most potent ways to achieve this drive is through the introduction of work-related policies (Atkinson et al., 2009). Therefore, in 2013, the British government introduced the performance-related pay (PRP) for its teachers. All the Local Authority maintained schools were to adopt this particular policy with the intention of attracting and retaining high-performing teachers. However, there was a dispute regarding how the policy was being rolled out (Department of Education, 2013). First, the policy eliminated the set points (spine points) that had traditionally decided how teachers could be paid from the government.
