The New Deal entailed a series of programs including Social Security that was passed in the United States between 1933 and 1938 and others that were enacted later. In addition to this, they included legislation enacted by Congress as well as President Franklin’s executive orders that were implemented during his first term. It is clear that the series of programs in the New Deal was in response to what was termed as the Great Depression, and concentrated on what historians call the “3 Rs,” which entailed Reform, Recovery, and Relief. In addition to this, the “3 Rs” targeted the poor and unemployed and aimed at making the economy recover to its normal levels. It also remains clear that the “3 Rs” aimed at reforming the financial system and thwart a recurring depression (Hopkins, 2011).
