Galileo’s concern was that scientific thinking was facing opposition because it was thought to contradict what was written in the bible. In response, Galileo argued that faith and science were supposed to coexist and did not contradict one another. According to him, the Bible was a reference book on faith and aimed at revealing much about God and spiritual matters. The Bible contained the spiritual truth about life and was indeed true. However, the purpose of the Bible was not to provide information about the physical world. Science, on the other hand, was aimed at providing information about the natural and physical world, that the Bible told little about. Equally, science was an avenue to discover the truth as well. According to Galileo, God, the creator of the universe was the source of truth and therefore could not contradict himself. Science required one to use their sensing and reasoning ability which were given by God. He, therefore, asserts that God could not have given these abilities if he did not intend human beings to use the senses. It was therefore right to question, observe and evaluate nature and understand the physical world in a better way. He argued that when one found contradictory information in the bible, it did not mean that the Bible was wrong but rather should seek a different way to interpret the phrase. There should be harmony between science and faith if one understands the purpose of scientific thinking and the bible.
