One of the divine duties of the king was to maintain order within the society. It was therefore known among the people that the king had the final say about how other institutions and religious affairs would be handled. By having the exclusive right to these decisions, he would give guidance and final decision about how religious situations were to be handled. Absolutism, therefore, responded to the chaos unleashed by the wars over religion by declaring the religion that people were to adopt and by reducing the level of rebellion that would intensify the wars over religion[1]. The king’s decisions were equally final on religious issues. People would not engage in further activities after the king had issued his decisions concerning the issues being addressed.
