In the first season, the series begins with President Bartlet in the middle of his reign in the West Wing seems to be facing some troubles with the administration, and the governing of the country seems to be powerless. The situation does not get better because every day the president has to deal with new challenges that emerge and the president is looking for ways to deal with certain pieces of legislation.

In the second season the president second year in the office ends and the third year begins where he has to deal with even more challenges than in the first year.
