Meaning of Work

The theme of “the meaning of work” emerges from the response given. As stated by Wayne, “there are some things which happen not because you were not prepared, but because you least expected.” When he joined ABC enterprises, a Public Relation Management firm, Mr. Wayne expected to be given work that he did not completely understand as he had never worked in such a field before.

Mr. Wayne expected to get extremely busy and overwhelmed by the workload. However, the work proved to be completely different. This response relates to the theme because the meaning of work is expressed as completing assignment as expected, as long as one exhibits the necessary knowledge and understanding of the tasks.

Skills and Occupation

In addition, the “Skills and Occupation” theme is expressed by the interviewee when he states that “Although I was academically prepared for the work, I believed the lack of a proven record could put my job at risk…..I was surprised that the manager started with simple tasks, and, the magnitude of assignments increased progressively”.  The employer seems not to have a lot of work for Wayne at the beginning, but the workload increased as the skills improved.
