Topic
Transformational Nursing Leaders
Instructions
Review Appendix A, Sections I–V, pp. 448-492, in Finkelman (2016).
- Select one of the sections and share how your chief nurse executive demonstrates expertise in these competencies. Your comments should be about the “highest nursing leader” in your organization. Typically this is the leader who represents nurses and nursing to the governing board.
- In your own words, explain the differences between a transactional nursing leader and a transformational nursing leader. What one is more like your Nurse Executive?
- Describe how the Nurse Executive “leads the charge” for transformational leadership in an organization where you work or have done prelicensure clinical experiences.
Answer preview
Our highest nursing leader is given the title Nursing Department Manager (NDM). One of the best areas I believe our NDM is perfectly proficient in is his demonstration of professionalism, stipulated in Section IV of Appendix A by Finkelman (2016). Our NDM insists on carrying every major challenge together. He insists on us working as a team. In case of any complication or difficulties incurred in providing nursing service, he suggests that we all combine our reasoning, thinking, and opinions in order to come up with the most prominent solution, and fast. He also insists on always prioritizing the safety of both our patients and ourselves, delivering the best, engaging on continuous learning from fellow nurses or any other clinical officers we work with and school-based whenever possible, and maintaining a constant exploration of areas of operations to become more proficient in our career through our BBT (Being Better Tomorrow) slogan.
