Water scarcity is a serious concern in arid and semi-arid zones of (Australia National Water Commission, 2007). Lack of adequate rainfall and continued drought contribute to water shortage, meaning that communities, plants and animals in such zones exhibit dire need of water. Also, as population increase, the demand for scare water sources rise, suppressing domestic, agricultural and industrial processes that depend on water (Gad and Khalaf, 2015).  The purpose of this report is to examine and compare two options of water provisioning in the arid and semi-arid zones of Australia.  The report also provides recommendations for on the most reliable options, taking into account aspects of costs, output, and social and environmental impacts.
