Despite his obvious talent, Dan still went out of his way to train hard. He trained seven days in a week. Towards the season for Olympic Games, Dan was self-assured of being the best in the world, and he wanted nothing short of an Olympic gold medal. Sadly, Dan was battling problems that wee not visible to the human eye. Dan was a man full of fear, and this led to a lot of inconsistency and self-doubt. It is also said that he had trouble sleeping. This is a contrast to the man everyone believes he has all going for him. His spirit was not at rest, and he had to find solutions to this problem before it cost him his academic and athletic prowess.

During one of his sleepless nights, the movie tells that Dan met with a petrol pump attender who changed his life progressively. This strange man told Dan that he needed to realize that his battles were not from the outside, but from the inside. Slowly, Dan began to realize that he needed to be like the peaceful warrior in order to fight his fear and self-doubt. Slowly, his life changed although he still was not an Olympic caliber.
