Many historians consider WWI as the most violent encounter that occurred in the world. This is because it led to mass murders on a massive scale with catastrophic effects. The geopolitical, social, and economic tensions of this war were caused by the drive for nationalism within Europe which caused the unforgettable event which lasted five years, between 1914 and 1918 (Greenwood, 2015). The war introduced anger, disenchantment with ancient paradigms, fierce tensions, and uncertainty within the continent. It gave rise to more economic, social, and geopolitical tensions. Today, the different understanding and behavior of European nations are as a result of the war.
