Olde World Grocery is a small chain of grocery stores having sixlocations and 360 employees in the state of Texas. It was foundedin 1981 when Jansen Schmidt, a then 45 year old German expatriate,lived in Dallas but couldn’t find good bratwurst. Jansen grew thebusiness from one small corner location to, at its largest, fifteenlocations throughout Texas. While Jansen hasn’t officially retired,he left operations in the hands of his family in 2002. Today, forthe most part, his children Abelard and Adeline, and a grandchildJessica, manage the day to day operations of the business.
